Who are your members?

Members are local area singles of all ages (21 and up) who reside in Napa, Sonoma, Petaluma, Yountville, St Helena, and Santa Rosa and other outlying areas within the North Bay.  They are professionals in various industries around the valley who are looking to expand their local social circle. (back to the top)

What is the benefit of being a member of WVSC vs. attending events as a non-member?

Access to the WVSC online calendar of events and automated sign up for all events.  Member “tools” that give you a glimpse of the other members attending upcoming events, contact cards that you can hand out with your “reach me at” information, tip sheets prior to and feedback forms after member pairing events.  Member discounts on all events.  “Bring a friend” discounts/certificates.  (back to the top)

What makes WVSC unique?

Our goal is to get people OFF their computers and face to face at low key events attended by other Napa valley singles.  All events are held in the wine valley, primarily in or around Napa, at high quality venues that valley residents may not have had the opportunity to visit.  WVSC members receive more personalized attention from our staff than provided through similar services to include more immediate feedback after matching/pairing events.  Members have a voice in the structure of WVSC and their suggestions are welcomed!  (back to the top)

What sort of events does WVSC host?

Examples of WVSC events include casual evening mixers, dinners, concerts, wine/cheese/chocolate pairing, group gourmet cooking courses, picnics, hikes, bike trips, river excursions, and health club classes.  Such events tend to be scheduled 2-3 hours on weeknights with a casual theme (no need to go home from work and change clothes).  In addition, we will be offering some out of town events to which we’d travel as a group.  Examples of these activities include professional sporting events (prefaced by a tailgate party of course!), ski/snowboard trips, beach parties, bay cruises, and other special events around the bay. (back to the top)

How much does it cost to become a WVSC member?

The membership fee is $19.99 per month if charged on a monthly basis.

Let’s put this in perspective:  that equates to one movie ticket, popcorn, soda, and red vines.  Members can save big by signing up for a bargain package:

3 months – $16.99/mo. = movie, popcorn, and soda

6 months – $14.99/mo. = movie and popcorn

12 months – $12.99/mo. =  movie and microwave popcorn in a Ziploc bag (always a big hit on a first date)

A per event charge also applies and varies but usually runs anywhere from $10 to $75 depending on the details of the particular function. (The cost may equate to your monthly charges from Blockbuster for overdue DVDs and videos!)  (back to the top)

Can I attend a WVSC event without becoming a member?

The good news:  Sure, we are a social bunch thus, everyone is welcome!  The not so good news:  Non members will not have access to WVSC member discounts offered for each event.  (back to the top)

How do I sign up for WVSC events?

Go to our website and select the “events” tab.  Click on the assigned link for the event(s) for which you’d like to sign up, and you will be taken to an event detail page which will walk you through the entire secure purchase. You will receive an immediate confirmation for print out as your receipt for the event.  (back to the top)

Can I bring a guest?

Yes!  Just indicate that you will be bringing a guest on your online order form.  You will be charged the non-member price for your guest and provided with a “buddy coupon” at the event which can be used to discount future events that you may want to attend.  (back to the top)

What are your payment options for membership fees and events?

We accept Visa, MasterCard, and Debit cards.  In addition you can provide payment by cashiers check or money order; however, you will not be confirmed for membership or attendance at the particular event until we receive your payment.  (back to the top)

Is it safe to provide my credit or debit card for membership and event fees?

Absolutely.  Our purchase process is protected by Verisign and is completely professional and secure.  (back to the top)

Why do you ask us to complete a member information survey upon joining?

The information provided in the survey helps us track demographics of our members and provides you with activities that you have expressed an interest in participating.  It is part of our personalized service to schedule the types of activities that you enjoy with the types of people you’d like to meet!  (back to the top)

Why do you group your members into age ranges?

The age ranges that we have set up within WVSC are quite broad and offer some structure as to who will be in attendance at each event yet keep things flexible and interesting with an opportunity to meet people with varied interests.  (back to the top)

What do the terms used for “attire” on your event pages mean?

Glossary of Terms for “Attire”

BLACK TIE OPTIONAL

Translation: Dignified glamour. But a full-fledged to-the-floor, walk-the-red-carpet gown isn't required; and subtly witty touches keep stodginess at bay.
To pursue: Rich color, dressy fabrics like velvet and lace, frothy details.
Variations:To make a quieter (but still grand) entrance, long and flowing is always good.
AKA: "Black tie," "creative black tie," "black tie and long dresses," "bohemian black tie," "white tie," "Texas tuxedo," "gala garb," "formal attire."

SEMIFORMAL

Translation: With this dress code, women wonder, So what do I wear? The answer: pulled-together, not-too-naked stuff. The flared skirt here is flirty but not risqué—silk and satin evening fabrics add a certain mad extravagance.
Variations: Its slightly formal connotations make black-and-white totally appropriate. Bare legs? No problem. And you can go a little crazy on accessories.
AKA: "Bring your suit," "dark suit," "jacket requested," "dark and chic," "suit and tie"

COCKTAIL ATTIRE

Translation: A little black dress with a deliciously modern twist—like an off-the-shoulder neckline or shorter length. Men in slacks, nice long sleeved shirts w/ optional tie.
Variations: Since black reads as more formal than navy or camel, it's the best base if you're coming from work.
AKA: "Fun cocktail attire," "simply fabulous," "gorgeous garb," "dress to kill."

FESTIVE ATTIRE

Translation: Be playful. Pick a hotter color than usual and take a chance on flamboyance with rows of ruffles, lots of leg, shoulder-sweeping earrings.
Variations: If you're happier in a low-key mode, do a single showy item (bright silk wrap, antique kimono, a little tasteful glitter) with simple black silk.
AKA: "Holiday threads," "holiday chic," "festive holiday attire," "colorful gowns," "carnival attire," "exuberant shindig," "glitterati gear," "fiesta fashion."

BUSINESS ATTIRE

Translation: A suit is shorthand for "I'm professional"; all you have to do is glam it up. Wear red satin heels, a beaded bag, and crystal earrings to finish the job. You can show a bit of décolletage, but be prudent: You want to look approachable, not overtly sexy. Men in suits or nice slacks with coordinating shirt w/o tie.
Variations: For women: Suits in brighter, lighter colors are showing up now.
AKA: "Business casual," "trade-show chic," "town dress," "urban chic," "city dress."

CASUAL CHIC

Translation: The rule—mix a dressy element, like an elaborate velvet jacket, with something more informal, like jeans.
Variations: Contrasting fabrics are key. A charmeuse blouse lends razzle-dazzle to gray flannels; a sharply tailored shirt tones down palazzo pants.
AKA: "Smart casual," "dressy casual," "casual threads," "informally fabulous," "simple and chic."

COME AS YOU ARE!

Translation: Flexible but not sloppy—even a laid-back daytime happening is still a party. You can wear anything from jeans to a dress to a relaxed suit.

Variations: Infinite. Sporty clothes at a party? Controversial, but we approve if they're well cut and a bit dressy (velours, cashmere).
AKA: "Dress as you please," "day clothes," "smart day," "smart attire."

CASUAL/WORKOUT

Translation: Clothing appropriate for the event/activity: jeans for ballgame watching, shorts, yoga pants, bike shorts, hiking boots, etc.

Variations: Coordinated sweat suits or separates (tshirts and sweat pants), think “come as you are” for a workout!

AKA: “gym clothes”, “gym grunge”, “sweat stuff”
